Exterior Painting
|
|
Preparation in exterior projects are especially crucial because of being exposed
to such extreme changes in the weather in our area.
|
|
We insist on power washing all our exterior projects. A
quality power washing job not only removes dirt from
areas to be coated but should. If done properly remove loose and flaking paint.
These areas then require further scraping to remove all failing paint prior to
new finish being applied. A good quality exterior primer must be applied to any
bare wood to insure proper adhesion of the finish coat. Failing caulk should
also be removed and replaced to stop water infiltration into interior areas.

Exterior metal painting requires different preparation than wood.
|
|
Unless the metal is rust-free {Aluminum, Stainless, etc.} sooner or later some
rust usually appears. It is almost impossible to stop further rust from
appearing once it occurs. The most successful approach is to wire brush,
manually or power wheel to get into deeply pitted areas followed by a
rust-inhibitive enamel topcoat. This process will slow any further rusting.

|
Exterior staining, either solid body or semi-transparent also requires a proper
prep job. A thorough deep cleaning with a power washer
to remove any surface and deep dirt allows for proper adhesion and penetration
of either type of stain product used.
